Through the Smoke Road Race
The Mandan Fire Department is taking strides to make the community safer, and it’s asking residents to join the cause.
Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 9-15, and the department is kicking it off with the fifth annual “Through the Smoke” 5K/10K walk and run on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Raging Rivers Water Park in Mandan. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The 5K/10K run and 5K walk starts at 9 a.m.
Participants are asked to bring nonperishable items and toiletries to be donated to the Mandan Food Bank.
In addition to fire prevention, the annual race also promotes wellness and fitness for both firefighters and the public. The number one cause of death of firefighters is heart attacks.
Firefighters are encouraged to exercise on a consistent basis to ensure they are ready when the emergency call comes in. Proceeds from the event will help purchase workout equipment for the Mandan fire stations. Additional proceeds will be donated to the Mandan Food Bank.
